Lightspeed takes over PPE

How Lightspeed is helping win the battle against COVID-19:

COVID-19 poses a daily threat to those on the front lines of this pandemic. While the virus continues to surge, personal protection equipment approved by the FDA has become scarce. Our healthcare providers needed a way to protect themselves. MasksOn.org has partnered with Lightspeed Manufacturing to help alleviate this issue.

With the deceleration of daily operations, we at Lightspeed have shifted our focus to repurposing full-face snorkel masks. Once converted, these masks are being shipped to hospitals all over the world, including Naval hospital ships USNS Comfort and USNS Mercy. Currently, we are turning over 1000 units per day with a goal of doubling that number. Shipments from Head, Ocean Reef, and Wild Horn are arriving weekly as more and more orders are being placed through MasksOn.org. We have set a goal to send out 100,000 units during this time of need.

How the masks are repurposed:

  • Off-the-shelf full-face snorkel masks are received at Lightspeed Manufacturing

  • The mask is removed from its packaging and inspected for irregularities or defects

  • Custom-made adapters are then added to allow a hospital-supplied, standard bacterial/viral filter to be paired with the mask

  • Instructions and precautions are inserted into the bag along with the repurposed mask

  • Once repackaged, they are then boxed and shipped, free of charge, to clinicians in need who do not have access to FDA cleared PPE

“We will be producing 30,000 to start and they will all be donated at no cost to hospitals and emergency workers.”
